Mission summary

Sixty five volunteers from seven states braved hot weather and four dollar a gallon gas prices to serve the Lord through the Cherokee Baptist Association Carpenters for Christ in Opelika, Alabama June 4th through the 10th 2022.   The mission project consisted of the interior walls and partitions for a metal building of 11,327 square feet with 11 rooms, a sanctuary with stage and choir area and multiple bathrooms.  The outer metal walls of the building were almost complete but no roofing had been placed on the metal beams.  The metal building contractor had been moved to another location for the week and the carpenters proceeded with framing the interior walls.

Saturday provided a beautiful mild day for the beginning of the project.  Monday and Tuesday were very hot days and the work continued with good progress.  Rain all day on Wednesday prevented any work from being accomplished.  Work resumed on Thursday morning and continued until Friday at noon when the carpenters formed the traditional fellowship circle to present the pastor with a signed board by all the carpenters who worked on the project (see pictures -- gallery) The project was completed to the point that was desired by the church and carpenters said their good-byes  and headed for home.  The Lord blessed all with safety while we worked and traveled.

A special "thank you" to pastor Thad Endicott and the fellowship of Heritage Baptist Church for the hospitality of water melon and ice cream on Sunday night and to the many volunteers who aided in the construction.  Special thanks to Emmanuel Baptist Church and Temple Christian School of Valley, Alabama for allowing the carpenters to use their facilities for lodging and their kitchen for meals.  They were truly an answer to prayers.
